Fall is settling in at Morgan Mile Manor, hunting season is officially consuming Jet’s thoughts, and the weekly question remains: What are we feeding ourselves this week?

Thankfully, Jet does most of the cooking around here. Not because I can’t cook—I absolutely can—but when you find yourself a man who likes to cook, you shut your mouth, appreciate your blessings and let that man cook.

Here’s what’s happening this week:

MONDAY — Venison Stew & Salad

Kicking off the week with a the crockpot full of venison stew. Hunting season is here, so it seems appropriate to start eating our way through the freezer to make room for whatever Jet hopes walks past his tree stand.

TUESDAY — Chicken Fajitas, Rice & Beans

One of our favorites. Chicken, peppers and onions with rice and beans. Nothing complicated, just good food and probably enough leftovers to feed six people even though there are two of us.

WEDNESDAY — Chili Dogs, Mac & Cheese & Salad

Some nights you cook like adults. Some nights you eat like you're at a backyard cookout in 1997. Wednesday is the latter.

The salad makes it healthy. I don't make the rules.

THURSDAY — Ravioli, Meatballs & Garlic Bread

My turn in the kitchen tonight while Jet spends the evening in his tree stand.

I'll get dinner going while he's hunting, and when he finally comes walking through the door after dark, it'll be hot and waiting for him.

Look at me being all domestic and shit.

FRIDAY — Homemade Calzones & Italian Salad

We made it to Friday, and we're celebrating appropriately - with dough stuffed full of meat, cheese and whatever else we decide belongs in there.

It's basically pizza with a roof.

SATURDAY — Breaded Chicken Cutlets, Mashed Potatoes & Green Beans

Pure comfort food. Crispy chicken cutlets, mashed potatoes and green beans.

The kind of dinner where you finish eating, look at each other and silently agree that absolutely nothing productive will be happening afterward.

SUNDAY — Homemade Broccoli Cheddar Soup & Homemade Rolls

Now THIS is what fall weekends are made for.

A big pot of homemade broccoli cheddar soup, fresh homemade rolls, a chilly Vermont evening and nowhere we need to be.

Give me my comfy clothes, Jet, the Sugar Bear and a bowl of soup and leave me the hell alone.

And that's another week at Morgan Mile Manor.

Nothing fancy. Just really good food, a cozy old house, a dog who's perpetually convinced she's starving, a boyfriend disappearing into the woods whenever possible, and me living my best life.
