He Was My Calm in the Chaos… Until He Became Part of the Damn Chaos

Apparently, my personality is contagious, and this man has caught a terminal case of Kelly.
Guys. We need to talk about Jet.
Because I think I've created a fucking monster.
When I first met this man, he was quiet, reserved, polite, and just the sweetest little country boy you'd ever meet.
You know the type. Doesn't say much. Keeps to himself. Probably apologizes to furniture when he bumps into it.
AND THEN THERE WAS ME.
A walking HR violation with a heart of gold, absolutely no filter, and a mouth that has been operating without adult supervision since approximately 1979.
We were quite literally the definition of opposites attract.
In fact, let me take you back to our first date.
This poor man was SO nervous that he WOULD NOT STOP TALKING.
Now, I know what you're thinking.
KELLY? COMPLAINING ABOUT SOMEONE TALKING TOO MUCH?!
I KNOW. THE FUCKING IRONY.
But this man was nervous-talking like he was being interrogated by the FBI and had 47 minutes to establish an alibi.
Finally, I couldn't take it anymore.
I grabbed his face, looked him dead in the eyes, and said:
"Jet, shut the fuck up. I'm gonna kiss you now."
And I did.
And, well, the rest is history.
Romance, ladies and gentlemen. I'm basically a Disney princess with a criminal vocabulary.
Anyway.
As our relationship progressed, I figured we had a pretty good system going.
Jet would be the calm, quiet, responsible one.
And I would be the loud, obnoxious, slightly unhinged entertainment committee.
He would keep us grounded.
I would provide the chaos.
He would make sensible decisions.
I would make questionable purchases and befriend woodland creatures.
IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL FUCKING ARRANGEMENT.
Except something has happened.
Something I was NOT prepared for.
Somewhere between falling in love, living together, and being exposed to my particular brand of bullshit on a daily basis...
THIS MAN HAS RELEASED THE FUCKING KRAKEN.
GUYS.
JET IS FUNNY!!!
LIKE, ACTUALLY FUCKING FUNNY.
And I'm not talking about your standard dad jokes or the occasional witty comment.
OH NO....
I'm talking about the kind of savage, completely inappropriate, out-of-pocket shit that makes you stop what you're doing, slowly turn your head, and say:
"EXCUSE ME, SIR?! WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?!"
The things that come out of this man's mouth behind closed doors are absolutely UNHINGED.
And the worst part?
HE DELIVERS THEM WITH A COMPLETELY STRAIGHT FACE.
No warning.
No buildup.
No indication that he's about to verbally assault me with something so ridiculous that I nearly piss my pants laughing.
Just casually drops an emotional grenade into the conversation and goes back to whatever the hell he was doing.
SIR.
I WAS NOT INFORMED THAT YOU CAME WITH THIS FEATURE.
And now I'm sitting here wondering...
Was he always this funny?
Was there a tiny, sarcastic little asshole living inside this quiet country boy the entire time, just waiting for someone to unlock the cage?
Or have I spent the last year slowly corrupting this perfectly respectable Vermont gentleman?
Because if it's the latter, I would like to formally apologize to his mother.
YOUR SON WAS A NICE BOY WHEN I FOUND HIM. I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.
Actually, yes I do.
I happened.
But here's where we have a problem.
THERE IS ONLY ROOM FOR ONE UNHINGED COMEDIAN IN THIS RELATIONSHIP, SIR.
I HAVE WORKED VERY HARD TO ESTABLISH MYSELF AS THE RESIDENT SMARTASS.
This is MY department.
MY specialty.
MY God-given talent.
And now here comes Mr. Quiet Country Boy, strolling into my territory with his perfectly timed one-liners and absolutely savage commentary like he's been secretly training for a
Netflix comedy special.
THE AUDACITY.
I'm supposed to be the funny one!
He's supposed to laugh at ME!
Not have me doubled over in the kitchen, questioning whether I need to start writing down his material before he steals my entire fucking career.
And the really infuriating part?
SOMETIMES HE'S FUNNIER THAN I AM.
There. I said it.
I need everyone to respect my privacy during this incredibly difficult time.
But in all seriousness, there's something pretty damn wonderful about watching someone you love become more comfortable showing every side of themselves.
That quiet, reserved man I met on our first date is still very much there.
He's still my calm in the chaos.
Still my steady, sensible, hardworking country boy.
Still the man who somehow manages to love every loud, ridiculous, over-the-top part of me.
But now I get to see this whole other side of him that the rest of the world doesn't always get to experience.
The playful side.
The sarcastic side.
The absolutely savage little shit who apparently has been hiding inside him all along.
And I LOVE that he feels comfortable enough with me to let it all out.
There's something special about being someone's safe place. Being the person they can be completely ridiculous with. No judgment, no pretending, no holding back.
Just two people who can laugh until their stomachs hurt over things that would probably get us escorted out of polite society.
And I think that's one of my favorite things about us.
We didn't just fall in love. We became best friends who happen to be wildly inappropriate together.
Although, I do have one small concern.
If this man continues developing his comedic abilities at this rate, we're going to have a serious problem.
Because I may have created my own competition.
And unlike me, he actually knows when to shut the fuck up.
WHICH MAKES HIS DELIVERY THAT MUCH BETTER.
So, ladies and gentlemen, if you happen to see Jet out in public being his usual quiet, reserved self, just know... THERE IS AN ABSOLUTE MENACE HIDING UNDER THAT FLANNEL.
And apparently, I'm the only one who has the password to unlock him.
Lucky me. ❤️
Love you, Jet. But stay in your lane, babe. I'm still the funny one.
